The United States bought the Nine Elms site (London Borough of Wandsworth) as the current embassy building in Mayfair does not meet security standards any longer and constructs architects Kieran Timberlake’s design expected to open in 2017 (an energy-efficient 11 storey cube, the steel frame and cladding panels are clearly visible.

The new embassy building fits in with the Nine Elms Vauxhall Partnership (founded in 2010) to redevelop the area, resulting in a complete transformation, landscaped  gardens immediately south of the site (designed by Olin landscape architects) two additional Tube stations as part of the Northern Line extension as well as the already completed St George’s Wharf Tower (St George’s Vauxhall Tower scheme) and the St James Riverlight development.
