London, UK, images; museums and galleries – Lambeth

Change your life; the plaque near this piece of grafitty art in the gardens of the Imperial War Museum reads:

“Section of the Berlin Wall, Change your life by the grafitty artist Indiano – The Berlin Wall was erected by the East German security forces in August 1961 to seal off the East German sector of Berlin from the West. On 9 November 1989 the East Germans began taking down the wall, ending the harsh restrictions on civilian movement between East and West. – Over 80 people died between 1961 and 1989 attempting to escape over the wall into West Germany. – This section of the Berlin Wall came from near the Brandenburg Gate and was acquired by the Imperial War Museum in January 1991.”
